Adobe Shadow: Browse Websites on Multiple Devices Simultaneously

Recently Adobe released a new product called “Adobe Shadow”. Adobe Shadow enables the web developer who is developing for multiple devices to view changes live simultaneously on as many other devices as they wish. As you test on PC you get live updates of the look and feel on all devices hooked up to your computer via wireless.

One Drawback which I am sure they will fix in time is that Adobe Shadow only works for iPhone iPad and Android devices. This does cover the majority of mobile devices so is still well worth the look.

Adobe Shadow is currently free to download and use because it is still in testing stages.

Learning Goals for this Year

This year I continue my studies into web design at Polytechnic Launceston. I am doing my Diploma of Interactive Digital Media specialising in Mobile Development.

It is my aim this year to learn many of the aspects of designing for mobile through the development of up to half a dozen different mobile apps. I will still be furthering my “normal” web design skills but will be taking this a step further by developing both web apps and natives apps.

My main focus at this stage is developing through PhoneGap but this will develop further as I develop through the year. I am hoping to pick up another 2 methods of building Mobile Apps as I go.

I am also looking to develop my SEO and design skills further and completely overhaul this blog while continuing to grow my reader base. I really want to get my name out there as a Designer.

But my ultimate goal is simply to pass my Diploma and to do it without sucking up. :)

In this tutorial we will cover some of the things you need to seriously consider when designing button for a mobile app or website. These buttons are naturally going to be the core of any mobile application yet many designers over look the obvious ways in which these buttons must differ from our more traditional navigational elements.

With the increasing presence of mobile devices on the web and with more and more people accessing the web on more and more mobile devices every day this has gone from being an optional exercise for a web developer to a necessity.

Due to the restricted space on a mobiles screen we are faced with major challenges in how do we redesign our site to be more mobile friendly. To further complicate things every week, even daily new screen sizes are added particularly in android. So how do we deal with them. Lets start in this series of tutorials by breaking down and looking at the common elements, the things that regardless of screen size we need to look at as a designer to make the switch to mobile. Photoshop CS5.5: Turning off Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction

So you have opened a TIFF or in some cases a JPEG file and gotten a message telling you to turn off Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction to view or edit an image properly.

This is more of a tip than an actual tutorial but we will quickly show you how to switch off Pixel aspect Ratio Correction In Photoshop. While I am using Photoshop CS5.5 the procedure for doing this hasn’t changed since at least CS3.

There isn’t much out there telling you how to go about fixing this and it is quite a common problem, however the fix is a lot simpler than it sounds.

Simply go to the menu at the top of your Photoshop and select View >> Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction

Once you have selected this you will notice your image instantly change in size to the size it is meant to be.

Finding this can be quite hard but still fairly obvious when you actually manage to find it.

Hope you found this helpful and see again next time.
