Stone & Tiled Floors
This tutorial will take you through modeling tiled floors using the Graphite Modeling tools.
Start by creating a plane that has a length and width of 150. Set both the length and width segments to 25. Right click on the plane and convert it to an Editable Poly. The key is making all the segments square so the tiles don’t look stretched.
Under the Graphite Modeling tool in Polygon Modeling select Generate Topology. Make sure the plane is still selected and the Modify tab is open so the Generate Topology will work. Select any procedual topology to divide the plane into tiles or stone shapes.
In the Modify tab under your Edit Poly modifier select the Polygon tool. Press Ctrl+A to select all the polygons. Select setting next to the Inset tool. This will bring up the setting in the viewport. Select By Polygon (see image below). This will make it so every polygon is transformed idividually. Set the amount to something like 0.8 then click on the tick.
Next select the settings for the bevel tool making sure the centre polygons are still selected. Set the Height to 0.2 and the Outline to -0.4. This will bring the shape of the tiles out.
Experiment with different topogies to get different effects. This stone floor was created using the Tatter Topology with a Turbosmooth modifier added.
